My iTripController app says to connect an iTrip, but it's already connected!
This can happen sometimes when the iTrip or RoadTrip has trouble communicating with your iOS device. This can usually be fixed with a soft reset on the device while the FM transmitter is plugged in. To perform a soft reset, press and hold the lock button (located on the upper right of your device) and the Home button (at the bottom center of your device) at the same time. Ignore the “Slide to Power Off” prompt, and keep holding the buttons until you see the iOS device turns itself off, then on, and the Apple logo appears. Then, let go of the buttons, wait for the device to boot back up, and try it again.
Can I listen to phone calls through the iTrip?
No. When a phone call comes in, you will hear the ringing come through the iTrip. However, once you answer the call, you will hear your voice and the other person’s voice come through the phone normally, and not through the radio. The other person’s voice will come through the iPhone’s speaker, so, your iPhone will behave as it would if nothing were connected. You do not need to remove the iTrip at any time to answer the call.
Can I listen to apps like Pandora?
Yes. With the iTrip plugged in, play a song from the iPod section of your iPhone to activate the iTrip. You can then back out of the iPod mode and use an app like Pandora, and the audio should come through with no problems. As long as you play some music from the iPod section of the iPhone, that will activate the iTrip hardware. The iTrip app is just for convenience, and is not a necessity.
Will the app be available internationally?
Yes! We are slowly rolling out the iTrip app to other regions of the world over the next year. The app will continue to use the English language, and remember – you do need the iTrip hardware to make use of the app.
When I plug the iTrip into my iPod, the iTrip's screen just flashes!
This means that the iPod you’re using isn’t compatible with the new iTrip. The new iTrip with App Support requires data connections that aren’t available in iPod models made before September of 2007. The good news is, there are plenty of iTrip models that are compatible with your iPod. For a complete list of Griffin products that are compatible with your iPod, go to our Products Page and click on the picture of your iPod.
How can I charge my iPod or iPhone while using the iTrip?
The iTrip has a Micro-USB port on the bottom that will allow you to charge your iPod or iPhone while playing music over your FM receiver. All you’ll need is a USB to Micro USB cable, which is now available from us directly. To purchase that cable, just go back to the iTrip product page and click on BUY NOW.
You can use that cable to connect the iTrip to a USB port on your computer, or to a USB power supply like the Griffin PowerJolt or PowerBlock.
Will this product work with the iPhone 4S?
Our testing shows that it works just fine, but additional certification is required before we can officially claim compatibility. Stay tuned to our webstore for the latest compatibility information.
