What file format does the radioSHARK record into?
Mac: On the Mac, the radio SHARK software can record using AAC or AIFF file formats.
PC: On the PC, the radio SHARK software can record using WAV or WMA file formats.
Can radioSHARK record internet radio broadcasts?
No, unfortuantely the radioSHARK software is not able to record internet streaming broadcasts at this time.
What can I do to improve my radioSHARK's reception?
There are a few things you can do to improve your radio reception. Use the supplied USB extender cable, which will act like a antenna, or plug a pair of headphones into the jack on the back of the radioSHARK. Also try to get the radioSHARK as far away from the computer monitor and other RF-emitting devices as possible.
I'm only getting audio on one side! (Mac)
Sometimes an update to your Mac operating system can throw off your audio settings. Go to your Applications folder and choose the Utilities folder. Inside Utilities, choose Audio/MIDI setup.
Change “Properties For” to radio SHARK and take a look at the audio settings. They may have changed from 44100.0 Hz and 2ch-16bit to something else. For example, if the format is 1ch, that means “1 channel,” which is why you are hearing a “mono” output. Just change them back to their proper values and you should hear a stereo output again.
What if my version of Windows XP is not English-language?
Unfortunately, you must use an English-language version of Windows XP to hear the output of the RadioShark. If XP is “localized” for some other language, the RadioShark will not work properly. We have not experienced this problem with Macs running OSX.
With the updated Mac software (2.0), I can no longer schedule recordings that happen once a week.
Sure you can! To schedule an event that happens one weekday per week, select a new event, but under “repeat,” select “custom” and change the frequency to “weekly.” Then click on the day(s) be recorded.
After updating to Mac OS 10.4.9 my RadioSHARK stopped working.

Can you connect an external antenna to radioSHARK 2?
Yes. The radioSHARK has a headphone jack on the back that doubles as an external antenna port. radioSHARK 2 comes packaged with an external antenna extension.
What are the radio SHARK 2's dimensions?
The radioSHARK antenna is approximately 7 1/2″ tall, 4″ deep, and 2″ wide at its widest point (the base).
Is radioSHARK USB 2.0 compatible?
No, the radio SHARK is a USB 1.1 compliant device. Normally most USB 1.1 devices will work fine when connected to a USB 2.0 port.
After installing the radio SHARK software, my computer will not go to sleep properly.
The radioSHARK software includes a background application called radioSHARK Server that must remain active to keep track of scheduled events. Unfortunately, when the radioSHARK Server application is active, the computer will not be able to go into sleep mode on its own. You can still put the computer to sleep manually; however, when you do this, the radioSHARK Server application becomes inactive and cannot record your scheduled events.
We recommend setting your computer’s Energy Saver preferences so your display will go to sleep separately. That way your monitor will still sleep, but the computer can remain awake and your scheduled recordings will still take place. You can do this by clicking on the Apple Menu and selecting System Preferences. Then select the Energy Saver Preference Pane and check the box labeled “Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:…”
Windows users should not be affected by this issue.
I can't get scheduled recordings to complete in Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) when using Fast-User Switching.
Currently, the radio SHARK application will not function properly in anything other than the main, logged-in, user account.
Where are the preferences for the Windows version of the radioSHARK?
radioSHARK’s preferences can be accessed by pressing the “wrench” button on the radioSHARK interface. That will cause the preferences window to open up.
If your radioSHARK window doesn’t have a wrench button, just right-click anywhere on the interface and choose Preferences.
iChat hears my radioSHARK 2.
Sometimes iChat will grab the radioSHARK 2 as its defualt input. This will cause the radioSHARK 2 audio to transmit through iChat to any users who are currently connected to your computer via an audio chat. This is a very simple thing to fix.
- Open iChat.
- Open iChat’s preferences.
- Select Video.
- Change the microphone from radioShark 2 to your desired input device.
I can't find the radio programs I recorded. (PC)
The location of both your “live” recordings (something you were listening to live and decided to record) and your scheduled recordings can be modified by pressing the “Wrench” button on the radioSHARK software interface to access your Preferences. Then, under the Record & Playback tab, look for a section labeled Recording Path. There you should see your current save location. The default save location is My MusicradioSHARK. if you’d like to change that location, just click the Change button.
If you decide to change that location, make sure that it’s easy for you to remember. For example, if you choose your Desktop folder as your save location, all your recordings will be saved to your desktop. Then, you can move them to another location or delete them when you’re done.
When I click on the radioSHARK, a window pops up that says the device is already running. (PC)
This is normal behavior. It means the software is already running in the background, and the program’s window will open by clicking on the radioSHARK icon in the tray. To close radioSHARK completely, right-click on the icon in the tray and select “Exit.” Once you exit the program, or if you restart your computer, the program must be opened by using the shortcut on the Desktop, like a regular application.
Why isn't the included SnapTune software working?
Unfortunately, our friends at Snaptune have had to call it quits. Because the Snaptune One application for radio SHARK 2 depended upon Snaptune’s server, the application will no longer function. While we are as disappointed as anyone by Snaptune’s demise, Griffin included this application as a freebie with no warranty. We recommend that you use the included Griffin radio SHARK 2 application for Windows instead. To get this software, just click the Downloads link on the left.
Is this product supported in Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) and later?
We do not support the use of this product in Lion, Mac OS 10.7 and later. Since it has been discontinued for some time, there are no software or driver updates planned for this product at this time.
In Windows 7, radioSHARK says it's playing, but I can't hear anything!
radioSHARK isn’t actually supported in Windows 7, and setting up a USB audio device in Windows 7 can be kind of tricky in general. Here’s how we’ve been able to get it work in 32-bit Windows 7.
- Open Control Panel. You can access Control Panel by clicking on the Start Menu, then choosing “Control Panel”.
- In the upper right corner of the Control Panel window, make sure it says “View by: Category”. If not, click the drop-down menu to the right of “View by:” and select “Category”.
- Click on “Hardware and Sound”.
- Under “Sound”, click on “Manage Audio Devices”.
- In the window that appears, click the “Recording” tab.
- You’ll see a list of sound devices. If you don’t see anything that says “radioSHARK” in the list, then right-click in the list field and select “Show Disabled Devices”, and radioSHARK should appear.
- Click on radioSHARK, then click “Properties” in the lower right corner of the Recording tab window.
- At the bottom of this new window, you’ll see a drop-down menu labeled “Device Usage”. Click on this menu, then select “Use This Device (Enable)”. “Click Apply”, then “OK” to return to the previous window.
- Click on radioSHARK in the list, then click “Set Default”. At this point, you may be able to hear your radioSHARK. If so, click “OK” to exit the sound settings window.
- If you still can’t hear your radioSHARK, click on radioSHARK in the list again, then click on “Properties”.
- In the new window, click on the “Listen” tab at the top, then click the check box next to “Listen to this Device”, then click “Apply”, then OK.
These instructions are not as reliable in 64-bit Windows 7.
